Key Principles to Remember

  1. 1

Mental health struggles are not a sign of weak faith. The greatest heroes of Scripture experienced profound suffering.

  2. 2

God meets people in their pain. He does not condemn those who struggle.

  3. 3

Physical, mental, and spiritual health are interconnected. Addressing only one leads to incomplete healing.

  4. 4

Medical treatment and faith are not in conflict. Using professional care is an act of faith.

  5. 5

Not all mental disturbance is demonic, and not all spiritual struggle is mental illness. Careful discernment is needed.

  6. 6

Community matters. Isolation worsens mental health. God's design is for His people to bear one another's burdens (Galatians 6:2).

  7. 7

There is always hope. God's compassions "are new every morning" (Lamentations 3:23). Recovery and restoration are possible.

  8. 8

Ellen G. White's counsel is holistic and compassionate: faith, lifestyle, medical care, community support, and reliance on God's love.
